Mr. D Posted 23 February , 2020 Share Posted 23 February , 2020 Hi, Can anyone on this forum confirm there were horses on board the Leosowe Castle when she was sunk off Alexandria? Specifically, did Captain Sydney Hanson have a horse and stayed with it at the end? Thanking you for any information.

Mr. D Posted 23 February , 2020 Author Share Posted 23 February , 2020 Thank you so much for the information. I will follow this up. We are trying to trace the living relatives of the Hanson family to return a silver cigarette case that was given to our grandfather as a thank you for trying to save Captain Hanson's life during the sinking. We are aware that Captain Hanson died but the family story goes that he stayed with his horse to the end.
travers61 Posted 26 February , 2020 Share Posted 26 February , 2020 If you haven't already seen it there is a lot of information here on Captain Hanson, including some details of his family up to the 1950's. https://secure.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/rollofhonour/People/Details/21837 A well known local family who owned the Kimberley Brewery. A fairly quick way to contact relations may be via the 12 trees that feature his father on ancestry. I found this works if you say you are offering to return something to the family.
