Hello,

 

Could anyone please tell me which regiment this person belonged to? Lived in County Durham before service. Name W FARNSWORTH

No worries, if you put his name and regiment on the soldiers part of the forum the wonderful detectives on there may be able to dig out some more info on this chap.

Presuming that he served overseas with the East Yorkshire Regiment, I think that the medal rolls only gives you this man...

Discharged to be a commissioned officer, Northumberland Fusiliers in 1919 (assuming same man), which seems to carry the story onwards.  If he was still serving after 1920 his military record should have survived in archives as Chris has said.

Pity he didn`t write a memoir. Commissioned in 1918 after over 2 years active service as a private, previously a grocer`s assistant. There does seem to be a shortage of memoirs by rankers who`d seen years of non-commissioned service?

Yes, you’re right, I can’t recall any by the so-called ‘Temporary gentlemen’ who had previously spent years in the ranks.
