Dragoon Posted 20 February , 2020 Share Posted 20 February , 2020 No worries, if you put his name and regiment on the soldiers part of the forum the wonderful detectives on there may be able to dig out some more info on this chap. clk Posted 21 February , 2020 Share Posted 21 February , 2020 Hi ameslogan, Presuming that he served overseas with the East Yorkshire Regiment, I think that the medal rolls only gives you this man... The back of his medal index card shows... All images sourced from Ancestry If he were to be your man, his file appears to be held at the National Archives - link Regards Chris

FROGSMILE Posted 21 February , 2020 Share Posted 21 February , 2020 (edited) Discharged to be a commissioned officer, Northumberland Fusiliers in 1919 (assuming same man), which seems to carry the story onwards. If he was still serving after 1920 his military record should have survived in archives as Chris has said. PhilB Posted 16 March , 2020 Share Posted 16 March , 2020 Pity he didn`t write a memoir. Commissioned in 1918 after over 2 years active service as a private, previously a grocer`s assistant. There does seem to be a shortage of memoirs by rankers who`d seen years of non-commissioned service?

Yes, you’re right, I can’t recall any by the so-called ‘Temporary gentlemen’ who had previously spent years in the ranks.
