Yorke Scarlett Posted 19 February , 2020 Share Posted 19 February , 2020 Dear All, Recently while visiting Bedford House Cemetery outside Ieper I saw a 1914 casualty [Pte Alick Wilsdon L/10390] from 4th Middlesex. During the fighting in early October 1914, 4th Middlesex where around Vieille Chapelle in France, not around Ieper. The war diary seems to indicate a number of casualties on the 12/13/14 October, who all seem to be buried in Vieille Chapelle New Military Cemetery except Pte Wilsdon who somehow is in Bedford House, Ieper. Could any learned shed any light on this. Thanks in advance
sotonmate Posted 19 February , 2020 Share Posted 19 February , 2020 (edited) This soldier has an entry on a grave concentration report in CWGC which may explain why he at least wasn't with the other casualties in VCNMC. No alternative map co-ords on the form though. I checked SDGW just in case he was DOW but it shows KIA. Chris_Baker Posted 19 February , 2020 Share Posted 19 February , 2020 (edited) The form says that his body was found at grid reference O.3.d.7.6 (sheet 28) and that he was identified from his disc. It is dated 21 July 1921 and presumably not long after he was brought into Bedford House cemetery. One other man found at the same location could not be identified.
