tootrock Posted 18 February , 2020 Share Posted 18 February , 2020 A man I am researching contracted a "social" disease, and had to appear before hospital medical boards. On the minute sheet/wrapper for his papers it has the results of these boards. Typically these say: "Unfit G.S 10 weeks in, not by Unfit H.S. 8 weeks Unfit L.S 6 weeks" (I take it that G, H, and L are General, Home and Light service respectively) But what is meant by "in, not by"? sotonmate Posted 18 February , 2020 Share Posted 18 February , 2020 Could it be that Light service could commence in ,and not by ,6 weeks, Home service in,and not by, 8 weeks, etc ?
TEW Posted 18 February , 2020 Share Posted 18 February , 2020 Or the condition arose while 'in' service but was not (caused) 'by' service. TEW
tootrock Posted 19 February , 2020 Author Share Posted 19 February , 2020 Tew, I think you are right. In the actual Medical Board reports there is a series of questions to be answered regarding his fitness, and also "Was it contracted in the service?", "Was it contracted under circumstances over which he had no control?", and "Was it caused by military service?"
