dhubthaigh Posted 18 February , 2020 Share Posted 18 February , 2020 Whilst attempting to transcribe an entry from the diary of the 153rd Infantry Brigade I found difficulty with several entries. It relates to an incident whereby Cpl Gardiner 1/6 Black Watch received a recommendation - and was subsequently awarded the D.C.M. Any help appreciated: 1. Reported to HD - is this an abbreviation for Highland Division? 2. Congratulated by B.G.C - what does this abbreviation stand for? 3. It is signed off by Claud Maitland but what is under his name - it looks like Captain then Brigade Major - would that be correct? David_Underdown Posted 18 February , 2020 Share Posted 18 February , 2020 BGC probably Brigadier General Commanding, and yes Captain and Brigade Major - a post confusingly usually held by someone who wasn't a substantive major, basically the main staff officer at brigade level. Highland Division seems likely for HD, but I can't absolutely confirm.
