wipers99 Posted 13 February , 2020 Share Posted 13 February , 2020 Morning all I figured no group is going to be better qualified to answer er this one! I've seen plenty of pictures of staff officers and they seem to favour the embroidered cap badge but I've also seen for sale a bronzed OSD cap badge, the latter of which I have to yet to see on a Great War photo. Does anyone have any observations about where, when and if bronzed badges might have been seen?
CorporalPunishment Posted 13 February , 2020 Share Posted 13 February , 2020 (edited) The bronzed badge was worn by the Royal First Devonshire Yeomanry. Pete. Edited 13 February , 2020 by CorporalPunishment
FROGSMILE Posted 13 February , 2020 Share Posted 13 February , 2020 I’d just like to second Pete’s explanation. Staff officers badges were always in bullion wire.

Dragoon Posted 14 February , 2020 Share Posted 14 February , 2020 Hello. I believe Staff Officers also wore bronze badges, as per the OP badge. There are a couple of threads on the badge forum working out which badge is which for the General Staff or the Royal 1st Devon Yeomanry. FROGSMILE Posted 14 February , 2020 Share Posted 14 February , 2020 You’re right Chris. Now that I look at that IWM photo I can recall many other examples. Well said!

I notice he is wearing "Rifles" buttons as well, great photo. Pete.

Chris I think this one is RDY. Apparently the position of the "inner" hind leg is a key indicator. No gap = Devonshires.
