Jonathan D'Hooghe Posted 11 February , 2020 Share Posted 11 February , 2020 (edited) The chap sitting on the right is Thomas Jamieson a Royal Scots Fusilier but the chap standing on the left appears to have a RA cap badge and a Fusiliers flaming grenade collar badge and a Lewis gunners proficiency badge - could he be Honourable Artillery Company - Infantry? I also noted the braiding on the sleeves. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Edited 11 February , 2020 by Jonathan D'Hooghe
FROGSMILE Posted 11 February , 2020 Share Posted 11 February , 2020 (edited) No he’s not HAC, he’s wearing the full dress tunic and undress forage cap and arm badge of a gun ‘layer’ in the Royal Field Artillery, Territorial Force. The 3-row shoulder title refers to the TF. The RFA like all gunners wore a plain, ‘universal’ grenade as their collar badge until after WW1 when a scroll ‘UBIQUE’ was added. The ‘braiding on the sleeve’ is an Austrian knot in golden yellow cord lace that was a feature of both, RA and RE full dress uniforms. Very interestingly Thomas Jamieson is wearing a one-piece shoulder title as his cap badge. If RSF he would ordinarily wear a glengarry cap and the title and forage cap suggest that he was in another fusilier regiment, perhaps the Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment), although several other fusilier regiments adopted one-piece titles during the course of the war. Before these latter type of titles were adopted all fusilier regiments had worn the same pattern of simple grenade as the artillery along with letters to form 2-piece titles (more pieces if TF). The RSF was one of just a few fusilier regiments that did not adopt a 1-piece title. Edited 11 February , 2020 by FROGSMILE

Jonathan D'Hooghe Posted 12 February , 2020 Author Share Posted 12 February , 2020 Thank you so very much for your comprehensive reply. It has answered so many questions but it definitely isn't the chap we thought it might be!
