Help with a German Document Please

Recommended Posts

Charles Carroll Harper Pennington was born in 1884 to American parents.  In 1896 aged 12 he and his brother were sent to live with an American cousin near Melk in Austria.  The cousin was married to an Austrian count who was an army officer.

According to a family letter, at some stage CCHP entered the Austrian Army. I found the attached document on Ancestry.com.  The man on the third line No 153 appears to be Charles Pennington, born in Paris on 23 Aug 1884. I would really appreciate any help to understand the document or information regarding his military career.

Many thanks

Harper

@Harper

the document you posted seems to me a list of army-volunteers of a certain city (Munich?) for 1920?

See e.g. "Zeitfreiwilliger" top right. "Eingetr[eten?] am  20 mar 1920"

Occupation "Rittmeister"  (Cavalry master), married, with one child.

Address: Park Hotel, Maximilianplatz 21.

Anyway, he was a Rittmeister in KuK (= Austrian-Hungarian army)  Ulanenregiment nr 7 :

He was commissioned on 1st May 1916:

Many thanks for this additional information.

The heading relating to the document that I posted was:

Bayerische Reichswehr
Bayerische Reichswehr
Schützen Brigade 21 Zeitfreiwilligen-Bataillon
22272- Verzeichnis

In the family letter which I mentioned say that "..,after the war he married a Frau von Dessovic...".

In the top document that you shared there are 2 offices with the surname "Dessovic".  I wonder if he married the widow of one of the other officers in his regiment?

Over the next few days I'll work through the links which you provided.

Thanks again

Harper

That would probably be Caroline (Lotte) Pfeiffer von Weißenegg, divorced wife (? Wilhelm lived until 1945) of Wilhelm von Dessovic, but if he is the same Wilhelm who's in UL7 I wouldn't know.

Yes that is the lady. I see that Charles Pennington is called Karl.

Your information answers some questions but raises others.  This is a case where idle curiosity could take me far away from the focus of my research.  It often happens as it is so interesting.

Nevertheless, many thanks for all your help.
