Histoire Posted 28 January , 2020 Share Posted 28 January , 2020 Hello Is there such a thing as a list of points within a town where men could enlist? If so, were any details of who enlisted at that point kept..? I know the town but wondering if there is a next level of detail anywhere.. Thanks in advance
clive_hughes Posted 28 January , 2020 Share Posted 28 January , 2020 Not a complete answer I'm afraid, but if you're thinking of the situation in August 1914 and the following months then local newspapers would often publish contact details or addresses of recruiters. Indeed you might get two such lists, because the local Territorial Force units usually recruited separately from the Regulars/New Army. There may well have been returns of those enlisted at each place, but on the whole they don't survive. The same newspapers might, however, publish lists of those who had enlisted in the town (or other area) in recent days. Clive
