TEW Posted 25 January , 2020 Share Posted 25 January , 2020 Not certain how unusual this is if at all but something seems odd to me. I'm looking at a group of Devonshire men that later fought with 11/Worcs in The Battle of Dorian, Salonica. Query parts in bold. Although their dates vary slightly I'll say that generically all their records show. Attested - 9/12/15 Mobilized 1/6/16 Appointed 1st HS Garrison Bn. Devonshire Regt. 2/6/16 (given Devonshire numbers) Attached 5th Worcs 3/6/16 (I note 5/Worcs were based in Plymouth, LLT) Transferred 5th Worcs 9/8/16 (now presumably given new Worcs numbers?) Posted MEF & 11/Worcs 28/8/1916 No idea where they were, what they're doing from Aug 16 to Nov 16 when they embark from Marseilles or how they got to Marseilles come to that. Then from B.103 forms Posted from 5/Worcs 28/10/16. (Odd?, above shows posted MEF & 11/Worcs 28/8/16 but now posted from? 5/Worcs 28/10/16, no mention of who posted to) Embarked Marseilles 6/11/16 Disembarked Salonica 12/11/16 Joined 11/Worcs in field 20/11/16 I don't understand the Appointed part, is that not the same as posted? Other sheets show that one man reported to Tregantle Fort on mobilization and another was treated for a minor illness at Scraesdon Fort in Aug 1916. Both forts being Palmerston forts on Devon/Cornwall border. Did they ever see Worcestershire? I assume they would have been uniformed as Devonshires until 9/8/16?
