Blueblood Posted 9 February , 2005 Share Posted 9 February , 2005 Can anyone tell me which Indian Army Units served in the Armentieres area particularly in the nearby towns of Erquinghem-Lys and Bois Grenier between 1914-1919? Thanks for your help.
Chris_Baker Posted 9 February , 2005 Share Posted 9 February , 2005 Hello Blueblood. I am afraid the answer is ... lots of them. The 3rd (Lahore) Division and 7th (Meerut) Divisions both had units in the area.
Blueblood Posted 9 February , 2005 Author Share Posted 9 February , 2005 Chris, Thank you for your help. I Will look the many Regiments that made up these divisions. One more question. Which division was predominately from Sikh in origin? A friend has found a Kirpan for his new Museum and wants to know which Indian Regiment it might have been from. Or were there no particular regiments made up of just Sikhs? Thanks for your help. Philip (Blueblood)
BeppoSapone Posted 9 February , 2005 Share Posted 9 February , 2005 A friend has found a Kirpan for his new Museum and wants to know which Indian Regiment it might have been from. I just searched the web and found out what a "Kirpan" is. If anyone else is interested, look here: http://www.sikhs.org/art12.htm
Julian Whippy Posted 9 February , 2005 Share Posted 9 February , 2005 Blublood You might want to try getting hold of the Excellent book" Sepoys in the trenches" it is by Gordon Corrigan a retired Ghurka Officer. He knows just about all there is to know about the Indian Army in The Great War. He also gives a great presentation on them and its very entertaining.
