100 years ago, "Christmas Eve," 24th Dec.,1919.

Remembering 331023, A.C.2, James Thomas Garvey, R.A.F.

Aged 26 years.

J. T. Garvey entered the R.A.F., 24th May,1919, for a short term duration of 1 year (for service with 47 Squadron) having previously served in France (3rd Aug.,1917 to 1st Apr.,1919) with the 51st Machine Gun Corps.  Some seven months later - A report dated 22nd Dec., from "Denikin's Mission Hospital," Taganrog, south Russia confirmed J. T. Garvey was "Dangerously ill - Typhus."  A further report from the "British Mission Hospital" dated 24th Dec., 1919, confirms death from Typhus occurred that day.  Mr Garvey being the first of the Squadron's four victims to succumb from this dreadful disease.

James Thomas Garvey, born 11th Oct., 1893, Paddington, London.

Husband of Daisy Louisa Garvey (nee' Weeks), 4 Elliott Street, Ipswich; father of Sydney James Garvey (b. 6th Nov., 1919).

Remembered With Honour at the Haidar Pasha Memorial, Turkey.

Mr Garvey's name is not new to the G.W.F., having first appeared in 2011, and more than is here described could have been written.  But as this particular Forum is intended to be a place to post a Remembrance of a person on the anniversary of their passing, the topic is restricted to that premise.  However I would like to mention that the 2011 G.W.F. posts concerning Mr Garvey were viewed with much enthusiasm by his son, the then 91 year old, Mr Sydney Garvey.
