Indian Medical Service – Major ILLIUS (1915)

The diary of a nurse serving on the hospital ship Gascon during the Gallipoli campaign in 1915 mentions one of the medical officers.  The diary copy is typed and the transcriber has listed him at various times as Major ILLINS / ILIAS /& FLUIS.

The majority of the medical officers at the time where from the Indian Medical Service, and there were (twin?) brothers with the surname of ILLIUS who both served during the war with the IMS as Majors.

I’ve pretty much ruled out John Warwick ILLIUS, and am focusing on his brother Henry Warwick ILLIUS who was entitled to the 1915 Star, but no mention of what theatre of war this applied to.

Hoping someone might know more about this man’s whereabouts during 1915 – and even more specifically, whether he was on the HMHS Gascon or not...

*ILLIUS, Henry Warwick b.9/10/1875 Bahia, Brazil (or 7/8/1874) – M.R.C.S. 1900; L.R.C.P. 1900; F.R.C.S. Ed. 1906 – Major 1912 (of Madeira, died 7/2/1941)

[Medal Index Card: 1915 Star] [Served in Iraq from 27/9/1917 to 1/12/1920 (UK MCM & AR)]

Frev,

He may be mentioned in the HMHS Gascon war diary  https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/b0b2a691b1cc4be4a1b4a84a3c835ac3

Perhaps a forum member has a copy they could refer to.

Perhaps may not be of much help, but a page from the Indian Army List Supplement Jan 1927 p267
