Guest Fiona Howie Posted 7 February , 2005 Share Posted 7 February , 2005 Hello, I recently found a picture of my Great Grandfather Sam W. Norton (154 Siege Battery RGA) which shows him in hospital after he was gassed. (Sam is in the centre at the back with the moustache) I was just wondering whether this was a standard uniform throughout all the army or it might tell me something else, like where the hospital is? I'm not sure whether this was taken abroad or when he came home, Any help would be great! Thanks, Fi
droberts Posted 7 February , 2005 Share Posted 7 February , 2005 I understand that the coat was a blue grey colour and that the tie was red. Soldiers were entitled to wear their standard head gear. I had a photo somwhere of my grandad in this uniform wearing a sunhelmet. I assume that it was taken in Alexandria but I may be mistaken. I knw that he was hospitalised in Alexandria for a period. regards Dave Roberts
Chris Best Posted 25 February , 2005 Share Posted 25 February , 2005 Fi From the appearance of the room, furniture and bedding, I would guess that this was a civilian building requisitioned by the military. Do you have date of gassing and unit employed with at the time? if so, it might be possible to trace the probable CASEVAC chain Chris
