Sly Posted 14 November , 2019 Share Posted 14 November , 2019 David, It was the 31ème Regiment d'Infanterie (French) attacking the "Bois des buttes" on 16 April 1917. After a quick research I couldn't find any information about the German units defending the wood, but it seems that the Germans had evacuated their first line to have a better defense position at La Ville-au-Bois prior to the start of the offensive. It makes sense when you look at the map, (J.M.O of the 10th French Division): Sly PS: I am pretty sure that I spoke to you a couple of years ago at the Thiepval visitor's centre...
