Florent Posted 11 November , 2019 Share Posted 11 November , 2019 (edited) Hello from France, In this remembrance day, I wish to show you this small part of the WW1 History. What is moving, is the names of some soldiers are written below some badges, given by the soldier I guess. To whom, where...? Hospital ? FROGSMILE Posted 11 November , 2019 Share Posted 11 November , 2019 (edited) That is an extraordinary collection and being in the book of wallpapers circa 1914 makes it all the more poignant I think. Usually if it’s connected to a hospital there is some indication of that, but it’s not impossible of course. Another possibility might be some kind of accommodation where soldiers were billeted, such as a large farm with outbuildings. Wherever it was the throughput seems to have covered many British and Dominion Divisions. Where did you obtain it from? The presentation of a Sheffield OTC badge by a young officer who was the son of a municipal Mayor seems especially interesting. It might be possible to trace his fate. Thank you for sharing. Florent Posted 11 November , 2019 Author Share Posted 11 November , 2019 It seems that this album was found in Eastern France. But clearly written by a british person. I found only one Australian Digger with the name of "Eickhoff ": Sydney George . 32nd Bon AIF, wounded 19-7-1916 (Fromelles) .He returned in Australia on 14-1-1917

Dragoon Posted 12 November , 2019 Share Posted 12 November , 2019 This is a stunning piece of history! I wonder what fate became of them all? Let's hope all good! And it's lovely to see badges that are 100% original. I love this! Thank you for sharing. Chris

Dragoon Posted 13 November , 2019 Share Posted 13 November , 2019 My thoughts on this one. I think this book belonged to a cap badge collector of the time! My reasons for my thinking this are, as a badge collector myself, when I was in the army, wherever I was posted there were different units about, and sometimes I was in an all arms posting. Whenever I was at these postings I used to try and get as many badges from people as I could. When someone gave me a badge, normally for a pint or two, I would write their name and rank and put it with the badge, on my boards at home I have dozens of badges with a label on the back of the board with the person's details on it, similar to what this person has maybe done. Take Pte J Shopland of the Middlesex Regt, he has given this person his badge and one that he got from Egypt (Bedfordshire Regt). Just my thoughts Cheers Chris
