BillyH Posted 31 October , 2019 Share Posted 31 October , 2019 Does anyone know someone with the surname Tighe or Tyghe? If so, can you tell me how the name is usually pronounced - is it Tie or Teeg? BillyH.
Steven Broomfield Posted 31 October , 2019 Share Posted 31 October , 2019 I worked with someone with the surname 'Tigh'. She pronounced it 'Tie'. Not sure if adding an 'e' makes any difference.
BillyH Posted 31 October , 2019 Author Share Posted 31 October , 2019 Thanks for that. I was trying to track down the mother of a Tighe, and she appears to have married as Teague in 1874 (signing with an 'X' on the marriage record). If she pronounced Tighe as Teeg then the church minister(?) may have written it down as Teague? I think I've more or less convinced myself of that anyway. BillyH.
