Remembered Today:

'The Dandy Ninth' (9th Royal Scots)

Steven Broomfield

Noticed this on the Pen & Sword list for publication in time for ********s The Dandy Ninth, by Neil Gilhooley

The author has quite a few posts across the Forum, and was god enough to send me a pre-publication PDF about a year ago. It looks very good and is available at a pre-publication price.

I would certainly recommend it from what I've seen of it.

Thank you Steven, the book is due out on 30 November 2019, so there is a short period of grace before it has to live up to its title.

This, I think, is another book that has grown up with the avuncular assistance of the Great War Forum. I am particularly grateful to @gordon92 on uniforms, @Robert Dunlop for translating Fraktur, @AOK4@pierssc, @david murdoch@robbie56, @barkalotloudly@Verrinder Ian, @Ron Abbott@Aurel Sercu, @matthew lucas@Open Bolt and Steven Broomfield, as well as @nigelcave and Irene Moore, the editors.

You may recognise the great uncle of @alistair_m on the cover:

After, it seems, a small delay, it is in print.

I can only suggest you buy it for Nigel Cave's foreword, and then you'll get the book for free...!

Hope it arrives in time for the Feastive Season. Should go well with a roaring fire and a glass of something reviving.

Forgot to say - my copy arrived on Saturday; I have two weeks to get the review done for Stand To!, so rather a concentrated reading session. First impressions very positive, though.

I have just despatched my review to Stand To! - should be in the next edition.

Spoiler Alert. It's bloody good (the book; not the review)

I very much look forward to reading it (the review; not the book).
