dhubthaigh Posted 4 October , 2019 Share Posted 4 October , 2019 I found reference to an entry in the London Gazette relating to the award of the D.C.M. to R.Q.M.S. W. H. McKenzie 2/265001 6th Black Watch. However the date of the L.G was 11th March, 1920 which was sometime after the end of the war. His name does not appear in Wauchope's History under the D.C.M. I just wondered why the medal would have been awarded at the time it was - was it standard to issue D.C.M.s after the war in this fashion? Admin kenf48 Posted 4 October , 2019 Admin Share Posted 4 October , 2019 If you go to the preamble on the first page of the Gazette you will see the entry originally appeared in the 'Peace Gazette' of the 3rd June 1919 https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/31819/supplement/3129 Chris Baker outlines these awards o the LLT https://www.longlongtrail.co.uk/soldiers/how-to-research-a-soldier/records-of-gallantry-and-bravery-awards/the-british-gallantry-and-bravery-awards-of-the-great-war/ While many of the entries were for single acts of gallantry during the last couple of months of the war browsing the Supplement shows many of the Awards in this edition went to NCOs for continuous gallantry and leadership.
