Remembered Today:

1271 Private Charles Ernest Davies, 7th Buffs

I'm trying to find out where Charles Ernest Davies came from. I know that he enlisted (1271) in the 7th Buffs, went to the BEF on 25.7.1915, and ended up with the Labour Corps (420982), from which he was demobbed on 7.3.1919.

I've looked at Canterbury - where the 7th was recruited - but, of course, there is no reason why Davies had to be from Canterbury or even Kent !

No service documents have turned up, though there is some associated evidence that Davies may have been an ex-soldier, though no longer on the Reserve which would make him (relatively) old in 1914, and may have been the reason he was medically down graded and transferred to the Labour Corps. Again, I have yet to find an associated hospital record suggesting a reason for the transfer.

Any ideas ?
