Roofy 1553 Posted 3 October , 2019 Share Posted 3 October , 2019 Hi I;m researching a soldier from Great Bircham, Norfolk. Robert John Easter, 6th Northamptonshire Regt. Killed in action 4/11/1918, Battle of Sambre. Tried to look at there war diary but it stops at the end of Febuary! Please could anyone help me with the war diary problem or give me any advice on where to look for information? Regards Andrew
clk Posted 3 October , 2019 Share Posted 3 October , 2019 Hi Andrew, There is a "Narrative of Operations" in the 54 Infantry Brigade HQ diary - Ancestry link. Regards Chris
Mark1959 Posted 3 October , 2019 Share Posted 3 October , 2019 (edited) Andrew This seems to be a problem with ancestry. The National Archives version of 6 Northants diary that I have downloaded in the past has these later dates https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C7352999 £3.50. The download is in 3 parts. The third one contains Nov 1918. Edited 3 October , 2019 by Mark1959
Stebie9173 Posted 3 October , 2019 Share Posted 3 October , 2019 the 6th Northamptons and 12th Middlesex have been switched on Ancestry. Despite reporting it hasn't been changed. It was the 12th Middlesex that was disbanded in February. If you search for the 12th Middlesex Regiment you will find the 6th Northamptons diary there. Steve. Stebie9173 Posted 3 October , 2019 Share Posted 3 October , 2019 Judging by his number it looks like he joined the Northamptonshire Regiment in about May 1918 and went overseas in September 1918. Steve.
