Remembered Today:

Two Old Soldiers

Whilst trying to "dig and delve" for info on my Grandfather, I've come across two names that have some relevence to his past. If anyone could give me some clues, I'd be grateful.

1) Lance Corporal T. Mannix. (7470) Kings Own (Royal Lancaster) Rgt. I think he was a Kings Own man pre 1914. His name is on a silver band around Grandads swagger stick so I assume the stick was aquired from him.

2) Miles Houghton. (Grandads brother) b.1881, Radcliffe Lancs. He was a career soldier, not Kings Own, and that's all I know.

The mics show only one Miles Houghton RFA Reg no: 11676

He appears to have been Battery Serjeant Major acting WO Class1 and then a Captain, again with the RFA.

Myrtle,

Many thanks for your reply regarding Miles. My mother did make a reference to him being an officer but apart from being "Uncle Miles" nothing else. She's 90 next month so maybe I know more about him in 10 mins than her 90 yrs. I'll tell her.

Thanks again.
