Skipman Posted 19 September , 2019 Share Posted 19 September , 2019 Private 34246 James Gartshore was killed in action on the 9th of October, 1917 and is buried at Cement House Cemetery, West-Vlaanderen. The CWGC entry has him as serving in the 16th Battalion Royal Scots (101st Brigade, 34th Division), but his medal roll has 11th battalion Royal Scots (27th Brigade, 9th (Scottish) Division), and 15th Battalion Royal Scots (101st Brigade, 34th Division). The 'Effects Register" also has "16th Battalion, as does SDGW. No service record survives. Are all the other sources correct to say the 16th Battalion" and is the medal roll incorrect? The 11th Battalion Royal Scots seem to be undergoing training near Proven at this time. Mike
Chris_Baker Posted 21 September , 2019 Share Posted 21 September , 2019 Mike, I'd trust the effects register and the data used by CWGC above that provided by the medal roll.
