Archer Posted 8 September , 2019 Share Posted 8 September , 2019 I have come across this a couple of times. What does OR stand for ... is it “at own request,” perhaps? William
horatio2 Posted 8 September , 2019 Share Posted 8 September , 2019 Could you give an example in context? Preferably a document with that entry.
Archer Posted 8 September , 2019 Author Share Posted 8 September , 2019 Surely. This rating left the fleet after less than one year’s service to join the merchant navy.
horatio2 Posted 8 September , 2019 Share Posted 8 September , 2019 (edited) 'Own request' it is.I can only assume that he was not on a Continuous Service (CS) (12-year) engagement but on a Non-Continuous Service (NCS) engagement. His official number would confirm. What was it? Was he a domestic of some sort (officers' stewards and cooks)? Archer Posted 8 September , 2019 Author Share Posted 8 September , 2019 Great! He was indeed an officers' steward. Haven't got his official number to hand but the facts fit very well. Thank you!
