Fuse head?

Recommended Posts

Hello! I found this in a field near Hooge and Ypres. I wasn’t sure if it was a fuse head or grenade, since I haven’t come across something this shape before. If it’s a fuse head, what kind is it? And is it safe? Does it still have a charge inside?

We can allow a response as far as someone commenting on what it may be but as a forum we cannot give any advice regarding the safety (or not) of any device. If in any doubt at all treat it as dangerous and do not touch.

To clarify the forum rules

Advice on the safety of munitions.

The GWF cannot permit, host or  give advice on the safety  of munitions. Any such posts will be removed. If anyone is in doubt about whether a potentially explosive item is safe they should seek advice from the appropriate authorities.

MOD Note: We can't get in to safety for various reasons but it it can be taken as a suggestion of what it may be.

... it is a transport screw which was screwed on shells during transport. It was replaced with an actual fuze just before the shell was fired.
