albatrosdva Posted 5 August , 2019 Share Posted 5 August , 2019 I recently got this 1st Division WWI tunic. Sadly it is not identified. When I got it the division patch was ready to fall off. I put a few basting stitches inside (did not go through the patch) to hold it steady and maintain the authenticity of the original sewing as I did not wish to replicate this but I also did not want to lose the patch. It had a couple loose buttons and an overseas cap in one pocket (not in the auction description). It is still missing one button (City button from NY if anyone has a spare) and is missing one of the eyes for the collar hook. I never get something and wish to deceive so I try to document any restoration efforts I make to show it is just that. I know the right sleeve will sometimes have a (sorry don't know the right terminology) specialist patch denoting branch of service. I wish to replace the missing collar discs but wish to be as accurate as possible so I don't want to get the incorrect disc because that collar disc should go with a different right sleeve patch. He was a corporal and served two years overseas. Pity I can't put a name to it. What do you all think about the division patch? It's an interesting color (British?). Any and all commentary is most appreciated.
FROGSMILE Posted 6 August , 2019 Share Posted 6 August , 2019 It looks like it might have been made under a British contract. It has the typical War Department ‘broad arrow’ stamp.
