MaureenE Posted 25 July , 2019 Share Posted 25 July , 2019 I have recently found a reference to a GRO (General Register Office) collection of records called "War Deaths Indian Services 1914-1921" and a description said "They relate to the Indian Army, Marines and other services" It would be expected these records would be very similar to the GWGC database, but whether the GRO collection would differ in any way I do not know. The Index to this GRO collection seems to be very restricted. I believe it would be available at the National Archives, and the AIGS (Australian Institute of Genealogical Studies, or Family History Connections) library in Melbourne Victoria has reference to this index as a book in its collection, title Overseas indexes: subtitle war deaths in the Indian Services, 1914-1921, number 355.305 GEN. This index database is not included in either Familyrelatives.com, or findmypast which contain other GRO Index databases. The actual record would need to be obtained from the GRO (fee applies) and I don't know the extent of the information which would be provided. I have included the above information in the FIBIS Fibiwiki page Chaplains Returns https://wiki.fibis.org/w/Chaplains_Returns Cheers Maureen
