My great aunt was a VAD in WW1   I  believe she worked at Timberhurst Auxiliary Hospital in Bury.  I checked with the local archive and she is not listed as being at Timberhurst.  Would she have had to stay on the premises overnight or would she have been able to go home?  Presumably she obtained her certificate.

Not all VADs were nurses, some were domestics doing such jobs as cleaning or cooking. Nor were all VADs qualified nurses, many were trained to change dressings and the like but had no nursing qualification.
