Keith_history_buff Posted 20 July , 2019 Share Posted 20 July , 2019 I have come across this man on SDGW, but cannot find him on CWGC. He is also mentioned on the listing in the following article:https://www.worthingherald.co.uk/lifestyle/the-fallen-heroes-of-the-city-of-london-battalion-royal-fusiliers-1-8214909 Quote 400Private William Joseph Wilson 295067Bethnal Green, Bethnal Green - Enlistment: Bethnal Green4th (City of London) Battalion (Royal Fusiliers)[, London Regt.]Formerly 683483, 22nd London Regt. Any assistance in locating him would be appreciated. Thanks, Keith
little bob Posted 20 July , 2019 Share Posted 20 July , 2019 Soldiers Effects has him as Joseph William Wilson 26/10/1917 or since, death presumed. Money paid to widow Dorothy W V Wilson. Bob
PaulC78 Posted 22 July , 2019 Share Posted 22 July , 2019 Ancestry have mistranscribed his service number as 29567 on Soldiers Effects. Can only find his medal card & roll, no sign of a death record on FMP. He gets a mention on the following website which suggests he is named on Tyne Cot Memorial, though that doesn't appear to be the case as far as I can tell: http://www.ww1wargraves.co.uk/ww1_cemeteries/memorials_belgium_t.asp FWIW I traced his marriage from the NOK on Soldiers Effects: Joseph William Wilson, age 21 (born about 1894), boot polisher of 19 Moss Street, son of Henry Wilson, married to Dorothy Winifred Violet Poyton at St Simion's Church, Bethnal Green, on 5 September 1915. Keith_history_buff Posted 22 July , 2019 Author Share Posted 22 July , 2019 Thanks for the research, gents. He is recorded in the Bethnal Green memorial library's Roll of Honour as residing at 19 Moss Street, located near Smart Street which still exists today and is 5-10 minutes walk from the library. How peculiar that he has no CWGC commemoration.
Bardess Posted 23 July , 2019 Share Posted 23 July , 2019 I flagged him back in 2011 for IFCP but heard no more. I suggest you contact Terry Denham and mention it was on the Pink List

Keith_history_buff Posted 3 August , 2019 Author Share Posted 3 August , 2019 Hi Diane, IFCP have ordered his death certificate in the mean time, so this should be going through the process as soon as the certificate arrives.
