rclarke Posted 15 July , 2019 Share Posted 15 July , 2019 My grandfather, Thomas Cufley, served with the Royal Horse Artillery and I am wondering whether anybody can identify these items I found in a drawer at my late father's house? Apparently the stamped number is one of my grandfather's service numbers prior to promotion. Approx 8 inches long. Probably pretty obvious to anybody 'in the know' but intriguing to his family! Many thanks. Rosemary Clarke
Jools mckenna Posted 15 July , 2019 Share Posted 15 July , 2019 They are for polishing his buttons. They would be slipped behind the button and that would stop the polish from going onto the fabric.

charlie962 Posted 16 July , 2019 Share Posted 16 July , 2019 (edited) You may already have this but I see his Service Record is held by the MoD Glasgow under Service Number 1033246 I see he transferred to Corps of Military Police in 1921 You will also find him in the RA Attestations ledger (Findmypast link here). His brief Navy service record (prior to joining RA in 1908) is also available here. I note that Thomas served Mesopotamia 1917-18 then France 1918-19 Charlie Edited 16 July , 2019 by charlie962
