Chinese Labour Corps - Lapugnoy

Trawling thru' the casualty records for this Cemetery I note that there are 5 British soldiers belonging to the CLC (1 officer, 4 ORs) buried here, all with a date of death of 29th May 1918.  There do not appear to be any others from this unit buried here.

As I understand it, there are no War Diaries for the CLC?

Does anyone know what happened on this date to take 5 lives?

It is possible that they were killed, or died of wounds, as a result of the third phase of the German spring offensive, on the Aisne, but it is also possible that they were killed in a German aerial attack on the lines of communication.

The officer, Capt Hugh Arthur, was, according to the Effects Register, killed in action so Ron's scenarios would apply.

Obliged, chaps.

Am I right in thinking that the CLC did not keep War Diaries?

First Army HQ reported enemy air raids during the night 28-29 May 1918 on St. Pol, Pernes and Steenbecque. It also mentioned Green Cross gas shelling of Hinges and Gonnehem on 29 May. The latter two villages are close to Lapugnoy.
