Lawryleslie Posted 9 July , 2019 Share Posted 9 July , 2019 YMCA were very active in support o the war effort. This article may help........ http://www.arichhistory.org.uk/narratives/world-war-i/ no idea why his rank would be "Secret". Perhaps if you gave his name and official number we could do some research. Sounds interesting though.
Moonraker Posted 9 July , 2019 Share Posted 9 July , 2019 Previous thread about YMCA workers and medals "Secret" is an abbreviation for "Secretary". Six Canadian YMCA secretaries (local organizers within the Association) accompanied the First Canadian Contingent to Salisbury Plain in 1914, continuing their peacetime role of providing pastoral care but in uniform and with the honorary rank of lieutenant.
