GRANVILLE Posted 21 June , 2019 Share Posted 21 June , 2019 Can anyone show a photo of an issue pick from the period? David
Grovetown Posted 21 June , 2019 Share Posted 21 June , 2019 If you mean pick axe, they're like any pick axe ever - save for military markings. Cheers, GT.

GRANVILLE Posted 22 June , 2019 Author Share Posted 22 June , 2019 Thanks chaps. It was the pick axe I was asking after. I wondered about the blade end of the axe and whether or not the issue version was as you have shown or if it was a wider version which you sometimes find with old pick axe heads. I appreciate the stampings would confirm, but I recently acquired a pick axe which was so rusted I couldn't find any markings at first. After some buffing with a wire wheel, I thought a fain't WB arrow stamp was shown up, but it was so faint, I couldn't be sure. I find the red paint quite interesting. Is this thought to be of the period or added later? David
reese williams Posted 22 June , 2019 Share Posted 22 June , 2019 While a bit later, I have a /|\ marked pick dated 1940 which along with its military markings still has the commercial label on the haft. I strongly suspect that in both wars picks were simply purchased from the trade.
