BillyH Posted 19 June , 2019 Share Posted 19 June , 2019 I attach a clip of what is probably a good conduct chevron on this soldiers left cuff. The xxxxx pattern has me a bit flummoxed though. Any comments please? BillyH.

FROGSMILE Posted 20 June , 2019 Share Posted 20 June , 2019 (edited) It’s a variety of issue pattern stripe from the WW1 period, less common than the standard issue but one of a few varieties. They were used for both rank and good conduct, as were all the patterns. The more standard pattern formed from tape that itself constituted a herringbone pattern of mini-chevrons was also used to trim the officers cuff rank, whereas the ‘x’ hache pattern to which you refer was only used by the other ranks for the purposes previously mentioned.
