Dear Great War Forum members,

My late grandfather Lieut.-Colonel W. F. Lindsay, MC, ED (1880-1940), was wounded on 1 September 1918, as Capt. and Coy. Cdr., 53rd Bn Australian Imperial Force, during the successful attack on Peronne: a VC action (Pte Currey, 53rd Bn). This thread shows how well-documented his award was - including a previous MC recommendation, the congratulatory letter from General Birwood, GOC AIF, the well-known General Rawlinson certificates and so on. Also shown is the engraved Military Cross, and a photograph of my grandfather wearing his Great War medals...

Kindest regards,

Kim.

Dear Paul and Chris,

Many thanks for your kind words.

Interestingly, his younger son (my late father), was MiD 1941 (Wadi Derna), and MC 1941 (Greece and Crete): NX182 2nd AIF Major J. G. Lindsay, MC, psc (1908-1975).

Yes, I thought the several documents were worthwhile sharing on the Great War Forum. To round off, I attach his 1809468488_Capt-Lt-ColW.F.LindsayMCEDobv.jpg.1dd88af26529ae1a75a87e75ecdd7d71.jpg5afc90c340f84_1937Lt-ColLindsayMC.EDInvestiture.jpg.adf5fb4171ff335d8ff8509a36d9afcf.jpg.69cdd3792f5a277891aab75577705b7a.jpg5afc8ce40a132_53BnAIFSydney1940.jpg.1fe67eb4e43631be80e0985fb68d6813.jpg.702db5c13500b8312be03e6c375942a9.jpgmedal group - and photos of him after having received his Efficiency Decoration from the Governor-General of Australia (Lord Gowrie, VC), in 1937; and shortly before his death in 1940: marching (left) on Anzac Day...

Kindest regards,

Kim.
