Trench Map

Looking for a trench map please with a specific sap on it. The war diary states  36 C SW 1

then further into the diary states M5A40 to M6C68 and 3 bombers are killed in Dead Mans Sap by Aerial torpedo.

Don thank you, don’t suppose with your vast knowledge you know where “Dead Mans Sap” is or about s on the map?

You might have some trouble here, in 1915, except for secret editions, most British maps did not show British trenches in much detail. There are not that many secret editions that survived. Other unit diaries may help, some have surviving maps so it would be useful to look at the units who served there before and after your date of interest.

 

This is a 1916 map on which some saps are named but sadly not Dead Man's Sap. You may have to infer between positions if other places are mentioned in the diary.

i do have a set of 1/10000 maps for the battle of Loos unfortunately none of the british trenches etc are named

Vast knowledge - I don't think so!  No, I had a search for that sap but nil found.  The thick blue line on the map I supplied represents the front line and seems to fit with the coordinates you gave.  As others have said, not many are named.  Good luck from the Somme!

the German trenches on this date are held by the following regiments of the 4th Army Corps (7th and 8th Division) since the October 8, 1915.
