ShtLE303 Posted 10 June , 2019 Share Posted 10 June , 2019 Hi there, I was wondering if anyone could give me some assistance concerning a British soldier's regiment/unit. I have some a friend in Sheffield who I am trying to help find info as to where her great grandfather served, and who he served with. I am going to be producing a piece of art for them, and any help would be appreciated. His name is Frank Marriott, and apparently this is the only wartime photo of him. You can see 'Kitchener's Army', and '1914'. This is about the extent of what I know. He was from Sheffield. Thanks in advance for any help. Im in the US, and have no idea where to start looking for records.
alf mcm Posted 10 June , 2019 Share Posted 10 June , 2019 There are quite a few Frank Marriot's. To narrow the search can you {or your friend} tell us; Did Frank survive the war? When and when was he born? Where did he live in 1911? Was he married, and when? Anything elso you know, such as a known address. Regards, Alf McM
CorporalPunishment Posted 10 June , 2019 Share Posted 10 June , 2019 Being from Sheffield and a Kitchener man he must have been a candidate for 12th (Service) Battalion (Sheffield), York and Lancaster Regiment. The studio that did the photo was in Sheffield and the whole image points to that being the case. He is not on the Battalion roll of honour so he looks to have been a survivor unless, of course, he was later transferred elsewhere. Pete.

brianmorris547 Posted 11 June , 2019 Share Posted 11 June , 2019 The local papers are worth a try. There will probably be Rolls of Honour for serving soldiers and perhaps records of those who enlisted into the local Bns. Usually on microfiche at the main library.
