You want to know who the spoon belonged to??? That's a reeeeeeaaaaaally long shot…

There is no soldier with that regimental number and the intials NN in he CWGC database…

The French do not mention the matricule on "terre des hommes".

and we can't even be sure the guy is dead…

NN will be the abbreviated unit name, not the soldiers initials...

I thought that was your English humour but is NN an accepted abreviation for marking ? I've seen other refs to NN being Northants Regt WW2.

For WWI the only match is James H Prior, 3099 MGC and 20687 Northamptonshire Regt.

Charlie

Edit I see it is an official post 1881 abreviation for Northants Regt and used on bayonets.

JH Prior 3099 MGC was reported wounded in at least 3 Casualty Lists:

5/9/16

31/8/17

31/10/17

Home Town or Place of Enlistment :  March  (could this be cambridgeshire ?)

Edit:  There is a James H Prior born 1890 in March, Cambridgeshire on the 1901 Census. Father Arthur, mother Jemima.

Bonsoir Michel,

You need to check the medal roll to confirm the order. My Ancestry Sub has expired !

The Medal Index Card has MGC first then Northants.

Of course it might not be him ?

James Herbert Prior, 3099 MGC has a Pension Record card on Fold3

It notes he was resident Wellingborough, discharged 3/3/19

For full details you need a sub but here is the link on Ancestry

There's a  James H Prior of Wellingborough died 1973, and is on the 1939 Register for Wellingborough, married with children. Occupation Printer Compositor, born 15/8/1889.
