rolt968 Posted 26 May , 2019 Share Posted 26 May , 2019 (edited) Commander (later Captain rtd) George P Leith CBE RN: Ever since I read the chapter on him in Fabulous Admirals I have wondered why there isn't more about him. He was certainly an eccentric. You feel he deserved a film - except that no-one would believe it. His record of service is here at FMP: https://search.findmypast.co.uk/record?id=GBM/ADM196/44/0/0796&parentid=GBM/ADM196/19150 I recommend trying to read the small writing crammed in at the bottom of the page. To retell any of the stories would perhaps be a spoiler. So I will just say that in his career he received a number of letters of commendation and letters expressing the displeasure of his superiors. At one stage the number of the former exceeded the latter by one. On one occasion he received one of each for the same action. He gets a mention in Endless Story (Taffrail) - needless to say about his completion of a form about a collision. Apart from that everywhere else I have seen him mentioned quotes either the record or Fabulous Admirals (Dreadnought Project). Has anyone run across him in anything else?
