Dave66 Posted 25 May , 2019 Share Posted 25 May , 2019 As fold3 are having a free weekend I've taken the opportunity to check a few names out. Below is an image taken from the pension record of Alfred Richard Dunkley, Royal Engineers, and I'd appreciate it if anyone can help decipher the cause of his disability. Original image is here...https://www.fold3.com/image/644596740 Many thanks, Dave.
charlie962 Posted 25 May , 2019 Share Posted 25 May , 2019 (edited) That is an original rank- spy ! The disability reads to me as D G A (or H) but now needs a medical man. I note his service record says disabilities VDH and Varicose Veins. I cannot see the connection Edited 25 May , 2019 by charlie962

clk Posted 25 May , 2019 Share Posted 25 May , 2019 (edited) Hi Dave, I'm thinking along the same lines as Craig/Charlie962, I don't know quite how it links back to what's written, but there is a record in his service file that shows he was awarded a pension on the basis of VDH (valvular disease of the heart) and varicose veins (attributable to war service) Image sourced from Findmypast Regards Chris Edited 25 May , 2019 by clk
Dave66 Posted 25 May , 2019 Author Share Posted 25 May , 2019 Thanks Chris, I do have a copy of his service record, but didn't consider varicous veins alone warranted a pension, albeit 20/30 percent. Dave.

For me the record seems to read that VDH (link) was the primary cause, with varicose veins being only of a secondary concern. Regards Chris Many thanks for the link Chris, very interesting. His address was later linked to an off licence and given his age on demob, for that era, it's probably no wonder he was suffering and paying the price after the added stress of war. Thanks to all who helped. Regards to all, Dave.
