Noor Posted 23 May , 2019 Share Posted 23 May , 2019 Hi all, I am just wondering is there any way to find out which battalion 2nd Lt Robert Holmes Kings Royal Lancaster Regiment, served in before his commission. I know only that he served in Notts & Derby (service number 42992) and Royal Irish Regiment (service number 43077). He landed in France 29 July 1916. Not sure with which unit he was serving at that time. Then he was commissioned into the Royal Lancaster Regiment and served in India. Robert died in India 16th February 1918 (non-action related death I assume(?)). He is buried in Bangalore Military Cemetery and CWGC shows that he was son of Enoch and Ann Holmes of 14 Ray Street Heanor Derbyshire. Any information of his pre-commissioned service would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
David_Underdown Posted 23 May , 2019 Share Posted 23 May , 2019 There's a reasonable chance that his officer file will have details of his ranks service too WO 339/83249 - these files have not been digitised however.
