Driving Band Identification

Please could someone identify this for me. It was found near Thiepval.

British 18pdr I would say.

The driving band from an un-fired shell would have no grooves. This item has grooves, but there is another metal item in the grooves, and in first picture the top seems to be of greater diameter than the rest. If it is/was a driving band has it subsequently been made into something else? Trench art?
