GWF1967 Posted 25 April , 2019 Share Posted 25 April , 2019 (edited) Carte Postale sent by "Alec - to Mrs F. Glendenning, Wrottesley Rd, Harlesden, London NW" 11/8/1916. Can anyone identify the cap badge of these riflemen please; any suggestions for the man rear centre welcomed. bigjohn Posted 26 April , 2019 Share Posted 26 April , 2019 I think they are new recruits without badges so at least three have rifles black button's as badges. John
Admin Michelle Young Posted 26 April , 2019 Admin Share Posted 26 April , 2019 Man rear Centre could well be KOYLI
Robin Garrett Posted 26 April , 2019 Share Posted 26 April , 2019 I agree with Michelle that man rear centre could be KOYLI. I would hesitate to support the idea that they are new recruits. I'd like to see a close up of what bigjohn identifies as black buttons as cap badges. I doubt the corporal was a new recruit
bigjohn Posted 26 April , 2019 Share Posted 26 April , 2019 By new recruits I meant fresh postings into a regiment with a shortage of badges available. This use of buttons as badges was quite common in the early years of the war.

Admin Michelle Young Posted 26 April , 2019 Admin Share Posted 26 April , 2019 The rest look like GS buttons, but the older man with the grey hair and tache looks KOYLI to me
battle of loos Posted 26 April , 2019 Share Posted 26 April , 2019 good evening, very interesting photo by the uniforms, Cape badge & weapon for this, I think : the Queen's - North Staffordshire - Lincolnshire Yorkshire Regt - East Lancashire - Ox & Buck - Loyal North Lancashire - Yorkshire Light Infantry - Durham Light Infantry - for the button on the cap, I think for the "General Service" button. I already found on the field of the Loos, somes "General Service " buttons painted in black. for me, these men are not rifflemen. because : the big button are in black & the little button for the chinstrap are in shiny copper. regards michel
