Pte Samuel Amer DOW Died 13/10/1917 8th East Lancashire Reg

Im after deatails on Samuel Amer of the 8th battalion, East Lancashire Regiment

 

Son of Margaret Ann & William Amer of 59 or 65 Whitby Road, Ellesmere Port, Cheshire. William was from Birkenhead and moved to Ellesmere Port, the birth place of his wife,to work as an engine driver.

 

Samuel died of wounds on 13th October 1917, Aged 19 and was buried in St. Sever Cemetery Ext, Rouen, Seine-Maritime, Plot P. III. Row H, Grave 9B.

I know from his number he was conscripted Militray War Act 25th May 1916. He enlisted in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire

 

ELLESMERE PORT WAR MEMORIAL PROJECT shows 1901 and 1911 census plus his MIC. Medal entitlement BWM and Vic.

 

I'm not 100% but I believe he must have been wounded at the Battles of Broodseinde or Poelcappelle if not before.Some 27 Or's KIA from the 4th-10th Oct. Then another 11 DOW over the past two days.

Baptism record shows DOB as 6/5/1898. Baptised Ellesmere Port 5/6/1898

There is a medical record that reveals much

”Buried by shell, contus, chest”

31st Ambulance Train. Entrained Bailleul 11/10/17. Detrained 12/10/17 at Rouen. D Company 8th Battalion.
