Interpreting RNR Medal Roll

I have downloaded the medal roll of a certain TS805 T W Read TR RNR

 

I was wondering what the TS prefix and the rank/trade TR abbreviation referred to?  Is TR 'trimmer' suggesting he was a trawlerman?

 

Also the roll indicated Star, VM and WM - does this concur with the idea that he was a trawlerman - did mineweeping count as service in a theatre of war??

 

I'm normally interested in Army chaps so naval stuff is all greek to me!

the 'TS' suffix is for a Trimmer in the Trawler Section RNR (Auxiliary Patrol)

Absolutely - one of the most dangerous tasks undertaken at sea. His record shows service in the hired trawler (minesweeper) HMS MERLIN and the hired drifter HMS DESIRE (a net vessel). He was invalided out of the RNR in August 1916.
