Remembered Today:

Hospital blues

Hi. I’m just putting together clues. Can anyone confirm whether the man in the photo is wearing hospital blues? I think he’s 27606 Alfred Cudmer, 1st Hants, wounded at Vimy Ridge in 1917 and died of wounds in March 1918.

Many thanks.

Wow! I don’t know how you did that but it’s impressive. He’d have been 35 when this was taken. Thank you.

Looks too light of a shade to be blue. But its probably just the light.

Nice 'full length photo'.

An excellent photo. Thanks for sharing!

I cannot help but seen the man on the far end, and the voice in my head regales me with "I'll get you Butler!"

Any idea what he died of - He doesn't look too bad in the photo so obviously took a turn for the worse - where was/were his wound(s)?

He was wounded in the leg at Vimy, but recovered and was sent back to France. He died of wounds 28th March 1918 and is buried at Duisans. It must have been the same for so many men; patched up and sent back into the Spring Offensive.

Ah thanks for the clarification. I now appreciate as you say;  patched up sent back early 1918. I originally thought he had stayed in hospital and died, which seemed odd given how he looked in the photo.

I agree. It took me a while before the penny dropped.
