Remembered Today:

Locations near Ypres

I'm writing a biography of a relative who fought with 19 Bn Durham Light Infantry and need to find the locations of SIEGE CAMP, DYKES CAMP and ONDNAND STATION (probably on a railway line from PROVEN to BERGUES). These are as referred to in the War Diary.

Any help would be gratefully received!

Found a 28NW MacMaster map sometime ago showing many camps, it's July 1918 but I doubt the camps moved around that much.

Good afternoon,

Thanks to everyone who responded to my request - very helpful indeed.

I have almost finished my work on a biography of my uncle who was killed 22 April 1918 - have all his locations but am left with 'Kempton Park', 'Canal Bank' and 'Road camp', all somewhere in the Ypres/Poelcappelle area.

Any help would be thoroughly appreciated!

Freddie

Oh and by the way - never was a Private - nor any other rank!

Hi again,

I'm afraid I'm stuck again as I get near the end - can't find Huddleston Camp as the War Diary does not give any reference to map. Does anyone know where this was?

Don't have a map to hand, but you will find Huddleston camp at what was Fortin 14, where Yorkshire Trench is/was, on most 1918 maps. Used in 1918. named after Capt, Huddleston RE who was killed there early 1917, during a raid.

Peter

PS the road along the present industrial estate (poezelstrat ?) was named Huddleston Road, you will find this on most 1917 maps.
