Gernika Posted 14 March , 2019 Share Posted 14 March , 2019 (edited) Just arrived this German 1871 bayonet with a rare regimental mark. It’s stamped in the Bavarian way. I have any theories but no one looks definitive, any help will be welcomed. Thanks in advance. Edited 14 March , 2019 by Gernika
trajan Posted 15 March , 2019 Share Posted 15 March , 2019 Bavaria retained its own marking system, a modified version of the Prussian one. I think this could be a place name, and so "Landwehr Inf.Reg.3, Bre..." If so, take your pick from the 258 possibilities at: http://www.places-in-germany.com/br-directory-places-in-bavaria.html
Gernika Posted 15 March , 2019 Author Share Posted 15 March , 2019 (edited) Then you are agree with me to be Bavarian by the way they stamped regimental marks, in opposition to Prussian they did upside down ? I’ll choose one of 258.....reduced to 75 more or less begining with BRE. Landsturm or Landwehr ? Thank you sir. Steve1871 Posted 16 March , 2019 Share Posted 16 March , 2019 I thought Bavarian used a bar instead of teardrop stud. I have a S71 PFM and a standard S71 Bavarian's with the "Bar"

Note that the surviving scabbard markings are for a Prussian (Baden) unit, the 5. Badisches Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 113!

It could be nice to see the deleted scabbard stamp to have another point of view but is unreadable. Edited 18 March , 2019 by Gernika

True, but its not a Bavarian stamp. Looks to be two/three numbers, then an "R", followed by company and weapon number no "B" anywhere
