Remembered Today:

VAD Nurses at Ripon Camp

Guest

Recommended Posts

I'm a brand new member and have done a search before posting but couldn't find what I was looking for. During my research I discovered a VAD nurse who had died at Ripon Camp, well, one hundred years ago this Friday actually. I'm not doing very well in finding out general info about Ripon Camp, pictures, what they did there etc and wondered if anyone could help.

Thanks!

There was a 670 bed hospital there, this will help with researching a nurse

This thread dealt with the camp, there may be others.

Little bit about it here:

Search the net - Ripon army camp WW1 -  gives a number of hits to look at.

I accept that she did both - earlier (from 1914) as a nurse) and later (from 1919) as a paid clerk. Out of interest her headstone has G.S. after her name which, to me, means General Service, and implies non-nursing duties. At least the CWGC have added her for commemoration from January 2019 so however you view her service she will be remembered.
