Remembered Today:

French Farms

Hi.

Wonder if any pals can help me. I am tracking the movements of C Company 1/5th Lincolnshires when they first arrived in France in March 1915. I have the names of two farmers on whose property they were billeted. Firstly i wonder if the same families still farm the same property (unlikely but worth looking into), and secondly if the barns/yards they were billetted in still survive (even more unlikely).

1 - On the night of 6th March they were billetted at a barn belonging to Monsieur Barrois approximately 1.5 miles from Wemaers-Cappel in the direction of Arneke.

2 - On 9th March they were in a farmyard belonging to Monsieur Bouille in Strazeele.

Any help appreciated

Regards

Chris

Hi Paul

Many thanks for that link. I think it now requires my french dictionary, a couple of letters (checked by my father whose knowledge of French is far better than mine) to the Barrois links and see what transpires. Hopefully will produce a lead that can be followed up on my next trip to the area.

Cheers

Chris

No Bouille in Strazeele or in the Nord or Pas de Calais departements.

Strazeele: postal code = 59 270, département du Nord.

East of Hazebrouck.

Has a population of 690.

Situated on the Roman route Cassel - Arras.

Stratum = street, Zeele = house.
